The Client's Goals

The Client's Goals

"Success is not only a destination; it's a carefully charted course, defined before the journey begins."

"Success is not only a destination; it's a carefully charted course, defined before the journey begins."

Simplify, and then Simplify Some More.

This project aimed to greatly refine a complex application into a sleek, modern interface.

Solve New Challenges Faced by Field and Office User Personas

An evolving environment flush with new AI solutions required a rethink of nearly every workflow.

Increase Speed of Survey Fulfillment

In a world being expedited by AI, it was prudent that the cumulative changes significantly decreased the time to turn around a property survey.

High-Fidelity Prototype

Aiding Virtual Roadshows with Prototyping Precision

Cerebral created a high-fidelity interactive prototype to aide executives to conduct "virtual roadshows," showcasing upcoming products to both current and potential clients. Because of the critical nature of the audience, it was crucial for the designs to be of high fidelity and offer an experience closely resembling a real application.

The Designs

Let's take a look at a few pages of the new design, along with some of the psychology principles used to guide the decisions.

Simplified.

The all-new experience greatly simplified a complex information architecture and rich feature set into an interface that left stakeholders wondering "is anything missing?". The experience is anchored by a dynamic map display with interactive points representing survey locations, providing context at a glance.

Psychological Principles and Theories Used in the Project:

Aesthetic-Usability Effect: Enhancing perceived effectiveness through simplified workflow design.

Anticipatory Design: Predicts users needs by tactfully prioritizing next most urgent tasks related to completing surveys on time and meeting carrier SLAs.

Cognitive Load Theory: Reducing the information overload for faster understanding and expedited reaction to more urgent survey tasks.

Digital Nudges: Guiding users towards desired behaviors associated to the claim management process, through use of snack bars and toasters with actionable quick links.

Hick’s Law: Simplifying the surveyor's decision-making by presenting fewer options per step in the workflow, coupled with reduced cognitive overload within an informational hierarchy.

Progress Monitoring: demonstrating progress and survey milestones throughout the claims management process, and the completion of surveys for policyholders.

Progressive Disclosure: Unveiling more complex details of lengthy surveys through strategic unveiling of information at the right time.

Everything you need, nothing you don't.

Being a field-and-value heavy survey system used by professionals across the nation, it was important to carry forward all of the rich functionality while doing away with unnecessary design and fluff. What resulted was an exceedingly accessible workflow, increasing usability through simplified design.

An End-to-End Design Reimagining.

Not only was the application experience completely reimagined, but the surveys themselves were re-crafted in order to portray the new modern look and feel for tens of thousands of downstream end users.

Mobile Optimized.

The experience was crafted to allow for seamless adaptation to tablet and mobile devices, enabling full functionality out in the field. Strategic use of interactive map elements and drag gestures required minimal development resources to create a multimodal experience loved by all.

The Designs

Let's take a look at a few pages of the new design, along with some of the psychology principles used to guide the decisions.

Other Theories and Psychological Principles Used in the Project

Desire for Autonomy: User's inherent desire to have control and make choices for themselves. To aid control and personalization to the user's unique workflow, each of the widgets on the dashboard are customizable in both placement and dimensions.

Loss Aversion: The phenomenon where the pain of losing is psychologically about twice as powerful as the pleasure of gaining. By re-orienting the dashboard to represent a depleting task list, the user is further incentivized to complete urgent tasks more quickly and keep the claim cycle time low.

Zeigarnik Effect: The phenomenon whereby users recall uncompleted or interrupted tasks better than completed tasks. Uncompleted tasks are now surfaced in the users primary workflow, providing opportunities to complete with relatively low effort and close the gaps that often increase claims cycle times.
